Spring has sprung! We think, anyway. The weather has been so back and forth in SWLA lately, but we think it should stay warm which is definitely a good thing! April kicks off some of the peak festival fun. And you know what that means – lots of date night ideas! A lot of these activities are centered around the local school Spring Break, but nevertheless, there’s a bit of fun for everyone!

Go get your two-step on at Walnut Grove with Rusty Metoyer! Zydeco is as much a part of spring as anything! April 5th, head out and Groove At the Grove.
Location: 1450 William St Lake Charles, LA
Cost: Free

One of my favorites is Adult Skate Night! Skate City makes room for just adults and spins tunes that are sure to take you back down memory lane as you glide across the hardwood. It sells out quickly so arrive early, and if you have your own skates, bring them on April 6th from 6:00pm-10:00pm.
Location: Skate City; 4720 Nelson Road Lake Charles, LA
Cost: $20 a person

After that is CyphaCon. Starting April 6th-8th, it is a sci-fi/gaming convention. If you’re the type of couple that likes to settle arguments by picking up the controllers, this is ideal. Every year it features some great local artisits selling commissioned art and costumes. They even have celebrity guests from sci-fi shows, movies, and animes! Don’t miss it.
Location: Lake Charles Civic Center
Cost:  At-The-Door Weekend (all 3 days ) Memberships for Children ages 7-13 are $15, Children 14+ & Adult are  $40. Single-day membership rates: Children 7-13 are $15; Children 14+ & Adults are: Friday, $20; Saturday, $35; and Sunday, $20. Children 6 and under attend free. Memberships can be purchased at Paper Heroes on Ryan Street in Lake Charles and on the CyPhaCon website via the Civic Center box office through Ticketmaster.

Next up is the Family Fishing Festival. You know what the Bible says! Teach a man to fish, right? Well here’s your chance. There will be open bass and catfish fishing in three different ponds! You have to have a fishing license to participate so make sure all your paperwork is in order. Otherwise, go reel ‘em in!

Dates: April 7, 2018
Cost: FREE
Location: Cameron Prairie Refuge 1328 Highway 27 Bell City, La 70630
(For more info, call 337-598-2216)

The best part of Date Night? Ok, well next to the bonding thing…FOOD! And this next Date Night suggestion has plenty of it. “Food Trucks Invade” is a new local favorite. All of the local food trucks park in one spot. Wall around and sample all the good stuff while in good company on April 6th, form 5:00pm-9:00pm.
Location: Crying Eagle Brewery; 1165 E. McNeese St. Lake Charles LA

Looking for a cozy at home date night this month? Here are a few more suggestions!

Decorate Your Christmas Tree Together
This is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and spend some quality time together!

Plan it!: Before you get started, take some time to plan a theme you would like to go with for your Christmas tree decor. Pick a color, a sports team, or an overall theme like “vintage” (collect really old -or old looking- ornaments either from thrift stores or from family members) or “nostalgic” (collect those old ornaments you made when you were younger and decorate your tree with them!). Also – this is a good time to figure out a spot for your tree and measure to see what size tree will fit in your space. Check out our Pinterest Board for some fun Christmas tree decor ideas!

Get started!: Head to the store and purchase ornaments that fit your color scheme or theme. If you don’t have a tree already, make sure and grab a tree too! Some other things you will want to grab while you are out – a tree skirt to go at the bottom of your tree, a star or tree topper that fits your theme, look at the wrapping paper as well to see if you find any that would bring your overall Christmas tree look together, Christmas cookie mix, and stuff to make hot cocoa!

Deck those halls!: Head home and get decorating! Make some hot cocoa (crank up the AC if needed since chances are its 70 degrees outside – joys of Winter in Louisiana), pop some popcorn, or make Christmas cookies! Play some of your favorite Christmas songs, chat about your favorite Christmas memories, and make some super sweet new holiday memories together.

So there you have it! Of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg, but we are certain there’s a date night idea here to suit every couple’s taste. I like to think holiday date nights help you not only enjoy quality time, but help keep in perspective involving Christ in your relationship. After all, He is the reason for the season!
